history of emco
For more than 30 years, EMCO UK has been supplying high-quality CNC machinery and training solutions to customers across the UK and Ireland, backed by experienced local service and support.
Over 70 Years of Engineering Excellence
EMCO UK was established in 1996 and operates through two companies, EMCO Education Ltd and EMCO Industrial Ltd. Based on Hayling Island, near Portsmouth, we support customers throughout the UK and Ireland.
Our facilities include showroom and demonstration areas for both our Industrial and Education ranges, supported by our UK-based service engineers and experienced office team.
EMCO itself has a history stretching back more than 70 years. The Austrian company was founded by Karl Maier in Hallein, near Salzburg. During the 1950s, 60s and 70s, its product range included hardness testers, high-precision manual lathes and milling machines, as well as universal woodworking machines.
During the late 1970s, EMCO began developing CNC machines for industrial customers alongside a range of smaller CNC machines specifically designed for education and technical training. The educational range was launched in the early 1980s with great success, resulting in hundreds of CNC lathes and milling machines being supplied to colleges, universities and training centres throughout the UK.
At the same time, EMCO’s industrial machinery was establishing a strong reputation in the UK, particularly among subcontractors. Customers valued the build quality, precision and reliability of the machines, helping EMCO develop a loyal customer base.
The EMCO range has continued to grow and evolve. In more recent years, EMCO has expanded its European manufacturing capabilities with additional factories in Germany and Italy, enabling the company to offer an increasingly comprehensive range of machining solutions.
Today, EMCO machines continue to be manufactured in Europe using high-quality components, combining decades of engineering expertise with modern CNC technology.
